Unterhalb Trnovo an der Soca in Slovenien sind in einem großen Kehrwasser die beiden Gedenktafeln der Brüder Günther und Jörg Salomon.
Next to a big eddy just below Trnovo at the river Soca in Slovenia there are two memorial plates to remember the brothers Günther and Jörg Salomon.

Günther stammt aus Nürnberg, seine Eltern hatten im Stadtteil Zabo eine alteingesessene Drogerie. Er wurde Zahnarzt und eröffnete in Kolbermoor bei Rosenheim seine Praxis.
Zu seiner Zeit in Nürnberg nahm er sehr erfolgreich an Wettkämpfen im Jollensegeln (Korsar) teil. Er war außerdem ein exzellenter Skifahrer und leidenschaftlicher Modellsegler-Pilot.
 
Günther grew up in Nuremberg (Germany), his parents owned a drugstore in the suburb "Zabo". He became a dentist and opened his clinic in Kolbermoor near Rosenheim.
During his time in Nuremberg he participated in dinghy sailing competitions (Corsar class). He was also an excellent skier and passionate model airplane pilot.

Jörg orientierte sich beruflich und sportlich an seinem großen Bruder, er wurde Zahntechniker und betrieb die gleichen Hobbys, oft auch zusammen mit seinen Bruder. Anstatt einer Segel-Jolle entschied er sich für einen Katamaran, außerdem ging er gerne zum Klettern in den Frankenjura oder in die Alpen.
 
Jörg oriented himself in his profession and sports to his older brother, he became a dental technician and practised the same leisure activities, often together with his brother. Instead of a sailing dinghy he decided on a catamaran, and he also enjoyed climbing in the Frankenjura and in the Alps.

Die erste Gedenktafel war eine Initiative von Günthers Paddelkameraden aus Rosenheim und der Familie Salomon. Günther verunglückte an der Soca, einige hundert Meter abwärts der Gedenktafeln. Diese Unfallstelle ist schwer zugänglich. Deshalb wählten die Rosenheimer Paddelkameraden zusammen mit der Familie Salomon die Position am Ende des Fahrwegs, gleich oberhalb der alten Hängebrücke. Die Tafel sollte auch vom Kajak aus sichtbar sein.
Als vier Jahre später Jörg Salomon auf dem Taravo in Korsika verunglückte, beschlossen die Angehörigen Jörgs Gedenktafel direkt neben der seines Bruders anzubringen. Kurze Zeit nach dem Verlust seiner beiden Söhne ist auch der Vater Rudi Salomon verstorben. Rudi war bis zu diesen Schicksalsschlägen selbst ein leidenschaftlicher Bootfahrer und so oft wie möglich mit seinen Söhnen gemeinsam auf Tour.
 
Nach der Beisetzung 1984 habe ich Günthers Paddelgruppe und die Salomon-Familie komplett aus den Augen verloren. Deshalb kann ich hier keinen Ansprechpartner für die Gedenktafeln nennen.
Einige Male habe ich die Tafeln ausgebessert, doch die exponierte Position und Hochwasser verursachen immer wieder neue Schäden.
 
The first memorial plate was an initiative of Günther's paddle mates from Rosenheim and the Salomon family. Günthers died at the Soca, a few hundred metres down from the memorial plate. The exact location of the accident is difficult to access. For this reason, the Rosenheim paddlers and the family chose the position at the end of the trail from Trnovo, just above the old rope bridge. The plate should be visible from the river when kayaking as well.
Four years later, when Jörg Salomon died on the Taravo in Corsica, his family decided to place Jörgs memorial plate next to his brother's. Shortly after the loss of his two sons, their father Rudi Salomon died, too. Rudi was a passionate boater himself before these strokes of fate. He was outdoors with his sons as often as possible.
 
After the funeral in 1984 I had lost Günther's paddle friends and the Salomon family completely out of sight. Therefore I cannot name any contact person for the memorial plates.
I have repaired the plates several times, but the the exposed position and the regular floods always cause new damage.
