Dieser Artikel von Holger Machatschek im "tours"-Magazin 04/1980 bedeutete für uns ein weiteres Projekt ganz oben auf unserer Wunschliste. Zwei Jahre später ergab sich dann auch für uns eine Gelegenheit.

This story by Holger Machatschek in "tours" magazine 04/1980 meant another project at the top of our wish list. Two years later the moment was right.

Die Fotostelle aus dem "tours"-Artikel haben wir 1982 noch gefunden, bei späteren Befahrungen war sie verschwunden. Offensichtlich hat ein Hochwasser das Flussbett verändert.
On our first trip we still found the photo location that was shown in the "tours" magazine, but it had disappeared later. Obviously a flood has reshaped the river bed.
 

Der Cannobino hat eine enge Schlucht ausgewaschen, mit steilen Felswänden und glatt polierten Felsen.
The Cannobino has washed out a narrow gorge, with steep canyon walls and smooth polished cliffs.
 

Wir hatten Niedrigwasser, doch das war zum Kennenlernen ganz gut. Die unzugängliche Schlucht machte die Angelegenheit spannend, da brauchte es gar keine großartigen Schwierigkeiten.
The water level was low, but that was all right for getting acquainted. The inaccessible gorge made the matter exciting enough, there was no need for great challenges.
 

Diese Rutsche ist etwas Besonderes: Gleich danach folgt eine Stufe und die Klamm geht ums Eck. Man kann deshalb erst im letzten Moment den Ausgang der Stufe und den weiteren Verlauf der Schlucht erkennen.
This is something special: right after this slide a drop follows and the gorge turns around the corner. Therefore, you can look at the pool and the further part of the gorge in the very last second.
 

 
 

 
 

Die Etappe ist vier km lang, nach der Hälfte überspannten damals diese beiden Brücken die Schlucht. Die heutige Straßenbrücke kam erst 15 Jahre nach dieser Aufnahme dazu. Von der alten Hängebrücke existieren heute nur noch einige rostige Drahtseile.
The lower gorge is four km long, at the halfway point these two bridges spanned across the gorge at that time. The present road bridge was added another 15 years after this photo was taken. Nowadays only some rusty wire ropes of the old suspension bridge are left.
 

 
 

Diese herrliche, historische Bogenbrücke bei Sant'Anna wurde nach dieser Aufnahme restauriert und auch das Steingeländer wiederhergestellt.
This magnificent, historic arch bridge next to Sant'Anna has been restaurated and the original railing has been restored after taking this photo.
 

Noch auf den letzten Metern versperrt ein fieser Siphon die Durchfahrt. Man sieht ihn erst spät und schön zu umtragen ist er auch nicht. Aber sofort danach öffnet sich die Klamm und man ist am riesigen Kehrwasser unterhalb der Kirche Sant’Anna, dem Ziel der Unternehmung.
A nasty siphon blocks the passage on the very last meters of the canyon. It's not visible until late and it's not pretty to portage either. However, right after that the gorge opens up and you find yourself on the huge eddy underneath the church of Sant'Anna, the destination of the excursion.
