A brief biography
Horst Fürsattel was born in 1958 and virtually grew up in a kayak. He earned
his living as a paddling instructor and knows paddling from his trips to the
rivers of the world.
He has made his mark on "Safety in Paddlesports" in the 1980s: by
contributing to the AKC Safety Booklet, at symposia in Europe and overseas,
at workshops, and as a long-time instructor trainer. The same can be said for
the development of new products: Buoyancy aids, harnesses, throw bags, tow lines,
etc. and their production with his trademark °hf.
Working as an importer, he has established brands such as Palm Equipment (1993)
and Werner-Paddles (1996) in the German-speaking countries. In October 2003,
he launched the "Kanumesse", the first trade fair dedicated exclusively
to paddle sports. From 2008 onwards, this event enabled stand-up paddling to
make a breakthrough in Europe and was therefore renamed "PADDLEexpo".
After 26 years of successful operation, Horst sold his production/trading business
in October 2010 and focused entirely on events.
He conceived the "XXL Paddle Festival" and managed it from 2013 to
2016, when it was continued by the German Canoe Association.
Since his grandparents and parents were passionate alpinists, he was familiar
with this sport and was able to create and run several major climbing festivals
in the "Frankenjura" from 2012 to 2017. This series of festivals was
continued in the proven manner as well.
The PADDLEexpo 2019 was the 17th and last edition of his event series. After
that, Horst retired into private life.
